Timings & Road Closures

On Saturday 12th October 2024 HDBS will be holding it’s annual celebration of the Sussex tradition of Bonfire.

This will entail a torchlit procession through the town to a firesite at Heathfield Community Centre in
Sheepsetting Lane where there will be a bonfire, effigy and firework display. Firesite entry is by advance sale wristband only. Wristbands now SOLD OUT.)

Road Closures:

To allow this to happen there will be a number of road closures in place, as follows:

18.30 – 20.15 Station Road, High Street, Mutton Hall Hill will be closed.

19.30 – 22.00 Mill Road, Mill Close, Wealdview Road and Sheepsetting Lane will be closed.

There will be no access or exit from any car parks, driveways or side roads within the road closures,
except for emergency vehicles, during these times.

There will be no access to Jubilee Park on 12th October for safety reasons.

Timings & Details:

(All timings are approximate)

19.15 – The procession will set off from the Heathfield Tavern.

During the procession, on the High St, there will be an act of Remembrance including a 1 minute silence. We encourage all spectators to join in this silence to remember those that have fallen.

Noise warning – During the procession there will be some loud noises. We suggest all animals and people of a nervous disposition be prepared from 19.30 until the fireworks display has finished by approx. 21.00.

Procession Route:

  • Up Station Rd from Heathfield Tavern to mini roundabout
  • Left on to High St to Fire Station
  • Turns back along High St to approx. Marshlands Lane
  • Turns back along High St (pauses for act of remembrance)
  • Turns left up Mill Rd, right on to Sheepsetting Lane and into the firesite at the Community Centre.

Members of the procession will carry burning torches, members of the public are advised to remain on the pavement at all times and NOT to pick up discarded torches for their own safety.

At the Community Centre there will be a bonfire, HDBS will undertake a wildlife check and a dynamic risk assessment on the weather conditions prior to lighting the bonfire.

20.40 – The bonfire will be lit.

20.50 – The fireworks display will start (approx.). This will last no more than 10 minutes.

There will be portaloos available at the firesite at Sheepsetting Lane.

The Community Centre itself will NOT be open for public access during this event.

Entry to the firesite is by wristband only, this is to control numbers for safety reasons.

Wristbands are purchased by ADVANCE SALE ONLY AND ARE NOW SOLD OUT. NO WRISTBANDS WILL BE SOLD AT THE GATE.
